Electroplankton Review (DS/DSiWare)

Electroplankton is less of a game than it is a toybox. It lacks any objectives or goals, and there is no way to “win.” Instead, you’re invited to select one of 10 electroplankton and interact with them using the touch screen and even the microphone to dynamically create new audio/visual experiences. As a toybox, the experience is unique each time and there is no way to save your compositions. For some, this may be an annoyance, but I personally love how I can create different sounds each time I turn Electroplankton on. Some of the electroplankton are more fun than others (my personal favorites are Luminaria and Hanenbow), but the product as a whole is absolutely different and wonderful. If you’re looking for something a bit eclectic, or if you’re a creative person, Electroplankton on the DS is a piece of software you shouldn’t miss. Unfortunately, Electroplankton was only available for a short time on Nintendo’s site, and never at retail, making it something of a collector’s item. Expect to pay about on eBay for a copy. If you have a DSi, though, you can download each electroplankton individually on DSiWare for each ( total), which is a fantastic deal. Electroplankton was reviewed using the DS version.

i bought for £14
Yes, it does tickle my fancy
You did a wonderful review of this game!
I just bought a copy today…I got it sent from a used videogame store and when it came to me I was a little disconcerted about the fact that it was in Japanese, but after playing it for a while I don’t care anymore. It’s an amazing game, and it’s so relaxing! I love audience mode so much…it gives a nice ambiance and a unique interactive experience. It was $34 used, and I wish it was the English cart for collectors purposes, but I still love it.
Instead of paying $80 buy it now on the dsi ware for a total of $20 (the cost of one card when buying them one at a time on the market. :3 Hope that might help anyone looking for it.
What I don’t like about the DSi Ware Electroplanktons, not every single Electroplankton “species” is avaiable at this point, and probley won’t. So I’m getting the cartridge version of Electroplankton.
@tvandlust i played it for 25 minutes now and its great thanks
@jmhub9 Hanenbow and Luminaria are my favorites. I think I would go with Luminaria.
dang i have 200 points and idk which electroplankton to buy
you can buy them from dsishop for 200 points…sadly they are separated…but anyway i think its worth it…..for me i dont think its worth getting them all…unless if your a collector or whatever then i donnu
@Luigidude124 Just because you got lucky and found a copy someone happened to trade in doesn’t make the game easy to find. Your advantageous position does not translate to everyone else.
Um, I bought this in a gamestop in queens. (and yeah I know what it is) and it wasn’t too hard to find.
luv it.
You can still buy them on the DSi ware for 200 points
@tvandlust I actually found one in the gamestop in Bethany oklahoma. But i sadly didnt buy it. x.x” I guess it was a rare site tho cause i havent seen anyothers sense. xD
@roundtr1p There seems to be a lot of fakes on ebay uk. Most of them state “not compatible with dsi”
No kidding? That’s pretty cool. It’s never in secondhand stores here in the US, and can get a bit pricey on eBay.
nope, the ds came out in ’05 and this came out in ’06
Wasnt this the 1st ever DS game released?
I’ve still not checked this out, I am sure I’ll give it a go one day, nice review mate.
Dude this game looks very interesting. What will the Japanese come up with next? lol Great review bro.
