I dearly love my N64, but am having an issue with the screen alignment. As in where the edge of the game screen should match the edge of the tv, is actually a couple of inches inwards and then wraps to the other side… Any recommendations on what I should do?

  2. illogitech says:

@DarkestSim I don’t have understand the question. You mean you turn on the console and the red light remains dead, but the console still runs normally and you can play? Or the console is dead too? If it’s just the light, maybe change it, it’s like a little led. You can customize it with other colors, but you must have experience in electronic to do this, me self i think i would not able to do it. If both light and console doesen’t turn on, the quickest way is to buy a new one, it’s cheaper.

  3. DarkestSim says:

I have a question and i want an answer. If you plug in the n64 and try to turn it on, the power LED doesn’t come on. Is there anyway to fix this

  4. blobbber88 says:

what type of screw driver did you use?

  5. djkub1 says:

@MrConsumerWhore1 Thanks but I found a way since then. I took an old gift card, and wrapped a alchohol dampened coffee filter on the corner and used that to get the grime and all the crap out. My N64 now works perfectly, don’t even have to blow in any cartridges or anything (I cleaned those too).

  6. MrConsumerWhore1 says:

    @djkub1

illogitech is being stupid, grime can cause a lot of problems. Just cut a piece of a cereal box the same size as a cartridge. Next dampen it with rubbing alcohol or electronics cleaner and stick it in an out a few times. After that give it about 15 mins to dry.

Also it could be your ic chip if the games don’t boot. Unlikely but if that is the case you need a new console or motherboard.

  7. illogitech says:

@CrystalDrew First i would try to change the scart cable and buy a new one, maybe the problem is there. If also with a new cable the probelm is still there, then there is a damage inside the console, and i don’t think you can easily fix it. If you have a super nintento you can use the cable, it is the same, or also the gamecube scart! Try this first, if it does not work, buy a new used console, 15-20 euros you can find it in internet. I never had any problem with my n64, it’s immortal :D

  8. CrystalDrew says:

Ok I have a problem&need help asap.. My console works perfectly, (can see&play games) but no audio!! The cords seem good condition.. Idk what’s wrong. Would you? I’m trying to play Zelda here & no audio (yes tried other games)

  9. illogitech says:

@djkub1 Oh man, you must be careful while disassembling something. If the N64 works great without the piece you lost then it’s ok, i don’t understand exactly which piece you lost so i can’t help you to replace it. Are you Hercules that you broke the bottom of the case? lol :D Fortunately the N64 is a strong machine ;) Bye!

  10. djkub1 says:

@illogitech I replaced my power LED with a blue one today. But yesterday when moving some parts I happend to lose one of the springs on the plastic grey shutters :( . Do you happen to know anything maybe around the house that I could use on that one flap piece?

I also managed to crack the bottom part of the n64 case because I was too rough when cleaning it :( . But it still seems strong.

    Thanks in advance

  11. illogitech says:

@djkub1 If some grime remains in the bottom there should not be any problems with the games, i think the console works great even if it is not 100% cleaned. If you removed the dirt or dust from the contacts pins then i think you are ok, the most is done! I’m not sure if the thing comes apart, i have not my n64 here yet to control. Bye ;)

  12. djkub1 says:

Well I got my gamebits from ebay now. Opened the console and cleaned just about all of it. Only problem is I can’t seem to find a affective way to clean the cartridge contacts/pins. I tried a q-tip/paper towel and some rubbing alchohol but the grime at the bottom is too great. Also how would I get inside the contacts so I can clean them. Does the contact thing come apart?

  13. BloodyAlchemist1 says:

Wow thats awesome but the problem is there are so many screws. must be worst trying to put it back together lol.

  14. illogitech says:

@jquint67 mhm maybe the ac adapter is broken and gives not energy to the console. The bad thing is that you can’t buy a universal ac adapter because the n64 uses a specific one, not as the snes fo example. So you only have the possibility to buy a new original ac adapter or buy a new n64 complete… you’ll find them for cheap. If you have a friend that has a n64, ask him if he can give you his n64 to try what’s wrong with yours.

  15. jquint67 says:

i just got the old 64 out of a box & was gonna give quake & perfect dark a go, plugged her in, turned power on & im not getting any power to the console, (no red light,) any ideas what i can try ?

  16. djkub1 says:

@djkub1 Ya I done tried that pen thing with a couple pens and a mechanical pencil. It was hard to do. Didn’t work. I will start looking around for some gamebits but I can’t use ebay because everything is payed through paypal, which is my worst enemy.

  17. illogitech says:

@djkub1 The gamebit you can easy find in ebay for cheap, i payed 5$ shipped in italy from california! And took 14 days. The melting pen method is not easy to do… 5$ and you are done ;)

  18. djkub1 says:

@illogitech Oh ya I understand now. Now that I think of it I wouldn’t want to damage the warrenty seal either in that case.
Thanks for the great tutorial BTW. I was planning to restore my old N64 console and I was looking for some videos on what I should do. My only problem is that I don’t have a gamebit yet so I can’t remove the gamebit screws. I would love to try that melting pen method but I don’t want to risk damaging the console any farther.

  19. illogitech says:

@djkub1 I said this because i don’t want to break it for personal reasons, not for the warranty, lol! Maybe i explained bad, but when i open old consoles or computers, i try to don’t broke original seals and warranty because i want keep them as they are, when possible. With the N64 it’s possible to do it, but it’s just a personal idea, you are free to broke it! Clear now? :D

  20. djkub1 says:

Am I the only person who noticed him saying he didn’t want to break the warrenty label on the expansion pack? Hahahah, check your calender dude, I don’t think that “warrenty” means much over 10 years after N64s stopped being made :)

  21. illogitech says:

@StaticMammon Yes i can open all games carts, nes to n64 and also Sega. I have a video if you go in my page and search. But changing the battery is difficult and i don’t suggest to do it. Buy a new game instead… because even if you change the battery you loose the savegame. cya!

  22. StaticMammon says:

@illogitech Hey can you do this with N64 cartridges? or show us how to insert a new save battery for different types of cartridges. I refuse to let my N64 games die. N64 is my favorite console…

  23. illogitech says:

@SpeedDeamon95 if your n64 read some games and others doesen’t, i think it’s more a problem of the games. Try to clean the cartdriges!

  24. SpeedDeamon95 says:

@illogitech how do you fix your nintendo if it wond read games i think the nintendo i have wont read games anymore it might play one or two games but if i put diffrent one in it it wont play them

  25. illogitech says:

@againesful I think it is possible! If you have both just try ;) inside the structure is the same, so if you only change the chassis i think there are no problems ;)
