That is definitely not difficult to do, especially with the dowsing machine. I haven’t bought any items in this game aside from repels.

I mean sure, you get darumakka, which makes the fire starter useless.
I would think Snivvy would be the better choice. Since you get the water monkey, and the earliest water poke you come across, ottamaru, is pretty useless, and you don’t get a water poke for a while.
You know you are just going to replace your fire monkey with darumakka anyway..
