27th Chaos Communication Congress 2010 held in Berlin, Germany. Authors: segher, marcan, sven and bushing — fail0verflow! More information – reviews.dcemu.co.uk FACTS: – fail0verflow is the name of our ‘group’. We are a bunch of curious hackers who have been working on a bunch of things over the last 3 years. – It did not take 4 years to crack the PS3, we only started looking at the ps3 after otheros was killed. – Note: we won’t be working long-term on CFW or similar. We’ll release tools and a PoC, someone else can take over. The fun part is done ;) – Our current PS3 goal: AsbestOS.pup – Our goal is to have linux running on all existing PS3 consoles, whatever their firmware versions. ————————- Over 70 million Wiis, over 40 million Xbox 360s and over 35 million Playstation 3s have been sold in the last few years. That makes over 145 million embedded devices out there and most of them are just used to play games. But what can you do with them if you don’t like playing games? You hack them to make them run your own code of course! We’re going to talk about the various hacks that you can use to gain control of your hardware and make it do what you want it to do. 2010 saw the first hacks for the Playstation 3, soon after Sony removed Other OS functionality. We will detail the operation of current PS3 exploits, show a few new ones and explain where and how Sony went wrong when designing its security system, and show how these holes can be used to gain control

    @MySoulSeeker
    The difference bettween JTAG and this what you can see here is the fact that you have not open your hardware and the JTAG takes a problem, you cant restore it! Thats it why softmodding is a treasure for all developers and homebrew users.

    @IzziiD sorry but, hackers don’t want pirated games! they just want low-level-access!
    think about it this way: the PS3 has an enormous powerful processor which can be used for all kinds of tasks.
    to access that power you need to be able to run your own programs onto the super-processor, there was a way to do that, it’s called otherOS. otherOS gone means you have to find another way to get your calculating-power back, that means hacking. most hackers bought the PS3 because of otherOS!

    @gotyoursoccer you’re an idiot. gtfo

  12. gotyoursoccer says:

    You fuks should have your hands cut off and should be hanged with cat5 cable! You are part of the reason psn is down now! If you had any brains you would create your own software or hardware and make millions. Instead you must ruin the hard work of others. Hackers should all die!

    @zengod861 I do too! Unfortunately these guys are pissed about Linux being remove and they are gonna make Sony pay thru the nose. So far they have lost an estimated $ 1 billion dollars and with the root key exposed Sony will have to build a new machine. We won’t be back on the PSN network for quite a while.

  14. Lynk3 says:

    i would pay $5 to hear short haired guy quote “The end of ze world”

  15. EverlastingStills says:

    Sony has elfs?

  16. CEOrko says:

    @179greatman
    Giving consumers back a feature sold with the PS3 that was then removed after purchase? It doesn’t take much to see that Sony are at fault here. They created an unneeded obstacle and in the process shafted the gaming community most able at tearing down such obstacles. Had Sony not removed OtherOS, this crack would not have happened. Had Sony not attacked these hackers, there would have been no cause for pissed off internet denizens to rally behind.

    fail0verflow are the good guys.

  17. CEOrko says:

    @jacobnoah87
    Don’t reproduce.

  18. Aemony says:

    People seems pretty quick to blame fail0verflow for everything that happens right now. Perhaps you should go back a bit further to the event which actually started all this and blame the “right” people? In other words: Sony for removing a feature some users used. Upon removing OtherOS the console was bound to be hacked and such. The only one to blame is Sony for not only removing the feature but also their terrible security implementations. Security through obscurity isn’t real security.

  19. jacobnoah87 says:

    i hope failoverflow and all there little gay friends fucking die thanks for fucking shit up you need to go home stick a dildo in your ass and play 360 with the rest of the fags

  20. IzziiD says:

    ok ppl need to think smart.. if every1 is going to play piratedgames and not buying it.. the game producers cant get money.. which means that they will not make more games so shut up sad hackers and let us play ps3 online like the old times !
