Released for the Wii and Nintendo DS, Sonic Colors shows some very smart game design — something we haven’t been able to honestly say about a Sonic title since the 16-bit days. With this game, SEGA shows a clear understanding of what works within the Sonic formula, a grasp that hasn’t been this clear since he was a 2D sprite. @321cheeseman For the first one it’s true and it doesn’t make cense, because I’ve seen people absolutely DESPISE Sonic and yet they keep going on Sonic game trailers, videos and other Sonic related stuff and hate on Sonic… for no reason. They keep on getting involved with anything Sonic related and they say they hate him? They can’t come up with good excuses.
The second one is debatable.

Wasn’t trying to say it was a rip off, just that if it was, it’s STILL a good thing because it resulted in the best Sonic game in a looong time.
And that’s cool that you enjoyed all those games, but really now, what seems more likely?
1. Everyone goes out of their way to hate on Sonic games for no reason in particular
2. The games just aren’t as good as they should be
@321cheeseman I already proved it’s not a rip off and if people would… what? Most of the Sonic games you listed were quality games. I don’t know what’s wrong with Rush but these games can’t be disappointing… but I’ll respect your opinions. and yeah everyone has it out for Sonic, just look up anything Sonic related and try to find something that contains no history lessons, negative comments or the words “genesis, 2D or mega drive” in it.

Look dude, I LOOKED FORWARD to Heroes, ’06, Shadow the Hedgehog, Unleashed, Secret Rings, Black Knight, Rush, Rush Adventure, and Sonic 4. I bought most, and gave ALL OF THEM a chance. They were all disappointing.
Colors is the first step in the right direction is AGES. If it’s a rip-off of Galaxy, at least they are emulating quality. I’ll take that over Sonic Free Riders any day.

While I know this is on a Nintendo console, seeing this video makes me miss the Sega Dreamcast, and how much I wish Sega would make a Dreamcast 2 or at least another cult classic gaming console that has as much of a place in our hearts as the Sega Dreamcast has on us.
@abaaba991 That would also mean that Sonic Team was un-original at making a Sonic game, and they’ve always achieved enjoyable gameplay in their originality. It’s just that people were too OMFG SONIC SUX!!!!!! HE HASN”T HAD A GOOD GAME IN 19 YEARS!!!! HURPA DERP!!! to even take into consideration that they’ve been fun all along.
Not that many people have liked Sonic recently and he’s lost a lot of fans that just won’t cut him a break, and they always see Colors as a Galaxy rip off when it’s not
@allyzado Who cares? If it’s influenced by Galaxy, fine then, that would mean that they are trying to achieve an enjoyable gameplay.

Great review, and im glad that sonic is making his comeback i only started playing his games on gamecube 4 years ago and they are some of the best things i have played

It’s about time this game got reviewed!
Not being very a big fan of Sonic myself (not even the Genesis classics, sorry!), and really not liking the Adventure games (regardless of fan appeal, I think they’re pretty bad…) this was a big leap of faith for me. But the game looked really nice, as though a hefty amount of work was put into it, so I got it anyway.
I must say, I love this game. The only Sonic game have I ever loved, and hopefully there’s more to come!

@StrawberryGuy86 yea when he said that i was like what are you talking about man. but then i heard since his jump into 3D, it is alright though but he is still wrong on that lol. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 where also very great games too, but if he said the first legitimately good game i would have been like ok sonic 1 2 and 3 and knuckles lol

@allyzado ya and the cancelled Saturn game, if u look up footage, had the idea of walking on orb like planets with the whole weird gravity thing first before even galaxy did…so that flips the coin totally. But on the same note NP had an interview with the creator of Sonic who said without Mario sonic would be nothing cause he pulled a lot of insperation from mario to create sonic…so they kinda complete each other

@allyzado Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have taken some inspiration from a couple of thing Galaxy did and add it in later.
@VonSeux Actually I was refering to Console Sonic Games, of corse the Handheld Sonic game have been good.
@shadowtsunami I never said they were 3D games. I was just mentioning them, because Derek said that Sonic Colours was the first legitimately good Sonic game since his jump to 3D. I didn’t think he was referring to just 3D Sonic, although I guess I must’ve took what he said the wrong way. So sorry about that!
