People don’t spelle “bologna”: buhloenie because they want it pronounced that way.
I know that the Japanese have 5 pure vowels with A as “ah”, E as “eh”, and so on, but I believe that the “é” letter has a universal “ay” sound, regardless of a cultural phonic. But be that as it may, we all know what “Pokemon” is. But i appreciate your enlightening

@ralphyy1234 “E” in Japanaese is pronounced like “eh”, like in Spanish, making it poh-keh-mon. The accent mark was put there to stop people from saying the “poke” part like the word “poke”, I believe.
At least they didn’t mispronounce it as “pokey-mon” like most English speakers do.

It is po-kay-mon… The logo of pokemon is ‘Pokémon’ with the dash over the e. Eg. the word El Niño. No one says it as El NiNo, you say it as El NiNeo. I guess the same rule applies here
