Nintendo SP/DS/DSlite/DSi non-invasive Shoulder button repair.

How to restore unresponsive shoulder buttons on your Nintendo handheld without the need to take it apart. Works pretty dang well, much more effective than blowing, which tends to restore functionality only temporarily. It may not return badly worn buttons to a like new condition, This type of repair is most effective on buttons that may have have suffered a lack of use, or if the DS is frequently kept in dirty environments.

This was so helpful! I was two minutes away from spending $75 by having it sent in!
@chainmaillekid alright got my screwdriver today. opened it up, wiped the lcd, the back of the touch glass, the front of the touch glass, underneat the touchscreen, turned it on and still gray blotches all over….so this is directly underneath inside the LCD? dam…
you should put that as HUGE disclaimer in the description and annotations….otherwise i would’ve never bothered…
Thanx, worked a treat, except I used Vodka (“,)
My L button is stuck as on all the time, will this fix? can I use 70% is all I have too!
@theri0n
The DS lite is a nightmare to get to anything inside of it. The first time I opened one up, I ended up having to replace the touch screen because I accidentally damaged the cable.
And wiping of the smudge would not be a good idea, the surface of the plastic is too sensitive and could be damaged if you touch it. Besides you’d have to dissemble the LCD panel in order to get to it.
oh derp. i got confused. i meant to say that i actually have a ds lite. why don’t you recommend taking it apart? i was going to try to wipe off whatever smug is on the lcd on the bottom left corner
@theri0n
you can keep it plugged in. There are no electronics in that part of the screen.
And the DSi is easy enough to get to the buttons. If you had had a ds lite, I would have told you not to take it apart.
dsi. i was sick of always blowing into the top right shoulder button but it eventually would stop working requiring me to blow now and again. at least now there seems to be a direct contact with a specific point of the button.
soon as i read your previous comment i took the battery out assuming it wasn’t completely dry. i’m still unsure if i could plug the battery back in or play (and would playing help it evaporate faster?)
@theri0n
Whats happening is there is this diffusion layer that spreads the light evenly over the screen, and its surface texture is so fine that even micro droplets of alcohol condensation is enough to stop it from working properly.
The space between the diffusion layer and the screen is so small, that it takes a while for the alcohol to make its way out of there.
It still COULD be dust, or something else. But this is far more likely.
Also, what system do you have?
@chainmaillekid so its not completely dry? i mean, saw the notice about it evaporating but i waited a good half a day and to me they look like dust stains so i assumed they would be there no matter how much time passes. i only tried this method because i didn’t have the trigram screwdriver. guess i’m off to ebay.
@theri0n
Did you read the annotations? This has happened to a few people, so I made some additional notes in the video.
The blotches are not permanent, they should evaporate in a number of weeks.
i tried this yesterday and i tried to turn on the ds today and and there are now several gray blotches on my screen and on top of it the shoulder button is still buggy.
regret trying this method. now i have a dirty screen.
@SekshunZer0
Its probably… Alright.
But you really should just go pick up some 85%+ stuff. Its like $2 at any pretty much any store that sells band aids.
What if i use 70% alchohol? Ya think that will work? Cuz…. Thats all i have right now.
@p0k3m0n0071 All right.
YOU SAVED MY LIFE!!!!BC OF THIS IMMA MAKE 20 YOUTUBE ACCOUNTS AND ALL OF THE ACCOUNTS WILL SUBSCRIBE TO YOU OK!!!
@crappyfilmproduction yes , well for me imma do it but imma wait for a day or 2
I did this, but now the L button is activating the camera automatically… It thinks it’s being pressed… When it’s not. What should I do? Try again and wait longer for drying?
I didn’t have any alcohol, so I gave my left shoulder button the good ol’ NES cartridge treatment and just blew into it… worked perfectly fine afterwards.
Thanks a lot though. Your video showed me that the reason for the unresponsiveness was any dust or other particles that can get inside the buttons.
hey do u get method to get dust out of Gba sp screen? Plz reply
can you give a product name for that type of bottle you used? I have no idea where to get one or how what to call it to look for one
Can you use a applicator bottle like one with a pointy tip but not like a needle like yours?
my shoulder buttons aren’t broken, but my left shoulder button on my DSi XL isn’t as responsive as the right one (it doesn’t have as much bounce back as the other). Would anyone know how to change that? If so it would be appreciated.
Hey man, thanks a lot, my DSi’s shoulder buttons work like new again.
Thanks so much for this video. My DSi’s shoulder buttons died on me and I was fearing the thought of having to open it up to fix it. This did the trick perfectly. I used 95% Isopropyl Alcohol since it was the highest % I could find and there were no ill effects.
no efense but i think everyone knows that exit!!! jumping on a flag pole??
How to record .
