RPG Tsukuru DS and Pokemon Black & White are region-locked

Fast forward to 0:54 to see that the game doesn’t work on the American DSi. The first minute is really me just showing Zekkyo Senshi Sakebrain, a Club Nintendo promotional game released in Japan only, to show that all DS systems will play Japanese games. I came across this problem when I tried to play RPG Maker DS on the American DSi because my normal Nintendo DS touch screen doesn’t work right and saw that it doesn’t work on the DSi American version, it does play on the Japanese DSiLL system though. This may be the first DS game that is really region-locked. Pokemon Black and White versions are rumored to be region-locked. Make sure that you can play the game before importing it from Japan or wherever.

Will it work if you dongle it through a ardsi.

    also, pirated flashcards confirmed work.

I have tsukuru ds and it works just fine on my american dsi system. Unlike the wii, the ds can and will play all region locked games. Pokemon, tsukuru, jump ultimate stars, and MANY OTHERS. The wii is the system you have to worry about. Also, DO NOT EVER DO SYSTEM UPDATES ON YOUR DSI. System updates are just one in the many ways that nintendo can screw you over. DON’T DO IT!!! Seriously! DO NOT UPDATE YOUR DSI EVER!!!!

Why does nintendo have to be so gay and region lock pokemon? It seems everything in japan is becoming region locked lately :(

  4. PrinzessinRamode says:

@Alex856100 did you not watch the video? RPG Tsukuru would not come up on the DSi, but it came up on the DSiLL. You can play HG/SS (even though I never said anything about them) on any DS system, no matter the region. I also say in the title the Black and White versions are locked to DS, DSLite, and Japanese DSi, DSiLL, and possibly Japanese 3DS.

  5. PrinzessinRamode says:

@Alex856100 the DSi and DSiXL are region-locked because they goto different servers to download the DSiWare software, other than that, there is no point. I am guessing this game is region-locked because it detects the DSi because it may use the camera or something.

  6. Alex856100 says:

No DS game is region locked at all. it’s the system in which it’s played..
So you shouldn’t be able to play Pokémon HG/SS (USA/PAL) on that japanese DSiLL..
Try it out and then tell me if you could play it.. if you could then it’s Black&White that are locked.. but I still substain my theory..

  7. Alex856100 says:

    Umm.. no xD
It’s the DSi!!! and DSiLL/DSiXL that ARE region locked..
Or so I read.. shame I don’t remember where though.. :S

But it’s the DSi’s that cause the region lock.. i think It may have to deal with the Different firmwares or something..

Reason why those games can play perfectly on the normal DS’s (Phat and Lite)

@PrinzessinRamode im saying that if i have an american dsi xl (which i do) and i have an English version of pokemon black will it work on the american dsi xl

  9. PrinzessinRamode says:

@renji928 Pokemon Black and White Japanese versions are region-locked to a Japanese Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSiLL. They will play on a Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSLite from any country.

  10. renji928 says:

please answer this question!!!! :( ((((( i recently got a american dsi xl and i was going to get pokemon black and white but i heard it was region locked…. so does that mean the english version of black and white wont work either??? DDD: plz tell

  11. Sparkioro says:

wtf i got b and w but my ds ar when i add the wild mod code and hit start the screen turns white wtf does it not work with the ar and ar max for ds and ds lite??? god damn ive waited 2 whole fucking weeks and my ar doesnt wrk and i cnt find my ds lite nor my ar max for it -_-

  12. PrinzessinRamode says:

@krakatoa669 mo you will not. You will need an American DSi or DSiXL to play the American games. These games are region-locked to that country which they are to be sold in.

  13. krakatoa669 says:

If I have a Japanese DSiXL and I purchase the American version of Pokemon Black and White, will I be able to play the game on my Japanese DSiXL?

  14. PrinzessinRamode says:

@Colormanicedon I believe so. I cannot confirm right now since my games have not yet arrived. They should be here tomorrow. I picked the cheapest shipping method. Once they do arrive, I will record some gameplay using all 4 DS generations to show what they work on and don’t work on. Playasia says they tested it on everything and said that they are region-locked only on DSi/DSiLL systems and the first 2 generations of DS systems were unaffected.

  15. Colormanicedon says:

so just to be tooootally sure on this, if i have the very first generation NintendoDS (american version) my pokemon white will still work on it? im pretty sure that’s what was being said but i just wanted a straight forward yes/no answer to reassure myself.

  16. sammi515rawr says:

You know….this…this just pisses me off with Nintendo. BIG TIME.

Today is the day that my Pokemon White came in the mail, and then as I look through youtube (Because I’m waiting for my friend to recieve it in the mail), I find out it’s region locked. I even checked it out for myselves…funny thing is, Play asia said it was not region locked in the beginning. When I PRE-ORDERED IT. I still have my old DS Lite, but its very scratchy and kind of broken…god FUCKING damn it.

  17. PrinzessinRamode says:

@pokemonsoulgold Pokemon Black and White should play mostly on Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSLite. The transfer from GBA games require a Japanese GBA game though. Mine should arrive tomorrow and I will post videos on all 4 Nintendo DS systems that are out to show the region-locks and how far they are locked.

  18. pokemonsoulgold says:

so it works on dsl english console
bad day arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ihave dsi and dsl but my dsl can never read games only gba games its really not working
ihave pokemon black its not working shit

  19. PrinzessinRamode says:

If you want to use the 3D functions of Pokemon Black & White and not wait for the American console or versions to release, you will need to get a Nintendo 3DS (Japanese region) and Pocket Monsters Black and/or White versions (Japanese version).

Other than that, Playasia has tested these Japanese games and say they work on the first generation Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSLite. They will just not be able to use the online video chat and other camera uses,

  20. PrinzessinRamode says:

@StevenMProductions Playasia actually announced it I think 2 weeks ago and I had mine on reserve since June. I did originally get a Nintendo DSi LL for the download content that is not available in the United States without knowing that any DS game would ever be region-locked. I fully disagree with region-locking anything in the first place.

My goal for adding this video was to make people aware that Nintendo is beginning to region-lock Nintendo DS games starting with RPG Tsukuru DS.

  21. StevenMProductions says:

Ever since you could pre-order them, all the descriptions labled Pokemon Black and White as region locked. So, if you were too stupid to read the description then complain about it being region locked (Note: I am not calling the creator of this video stupid.) you deserve it.

  22. PrinzessinRamode says:

    ~POKEMON BLACK / WHITE are region-locked~

Another issue that might concern you is the game’s region-lock. We have conducted the testing on Pokemon White and Black recently and its confirmed that the games are locked. They work on all Nintendo DS™ and DS™ Lite consoles, but only on Japanese Nintendo DSi™ and DSi™ LL.

Impatient gamers can either dig out the older consoles or alternatively, get new Japanese encoded ones:

  23. PrinzessinRamode says:

@Hablero if a game says “NO REGION PROTECTION”, it means it will play on the game system the game is designed for from any country like Japanese games will play on Japanese, American, and European systems. If a game is “REGION-LOCKED”, the game will only play on the system on the country it came from. Japanese games that are “REGION-LOCKED” will NOT work on American or PAL systems. They will play only on Japanese systems. American “REGION-LOCKED” games only work on American systems.

  24. Hablero says:

What does “No Region Protection” mean? I heard it allows you to play any game on any DSi.

  25. PrinzessinRamode says:

@superfreddythecat OK, don’t be a jerk about it. I am only pointing this out to those who don’t know…
