Gameplay
In Style Lab: Jewelry Design players assume the role of a boutique owner specializing in custom-made jewelry. Using the DSi/DS stylus you create necklaces, bracelets, earrings and charms out of a variety of beads and other accessories, made to the specifications of your clientele. Success in these challenges will cause your boutique to blossom and more customers to come to you commissioning new work. Beyond their use in-game, these creations can also be shared with other players by uploading them to the Style Lab gallery online using your Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. In addition, Style Lab: Jewelry Design is also designed to take advantage of the the DSi’s unique digital camera and Internet connectivity functionality. Players can use the DSi’s digital cameras to take pictures of themselves, which can then be imported into the game allowing the players to virtually try on their jewelry creations. If players like what they see, they can even bring their style literally to life by purchasing a real representation of their jewelry designs, provided through a partnership between the game publisher and a contracted bead maker.

This game seems to hold the attention of my 2nd grader better than some others. She enjoys being able to make her own designs. She is DISAPPOINTED that you don’t just hit an “order” button and get the jewelry that she likes. After seeing the commercials, she thought that’s how it worked. Once I explained that you can order jewelry, but you have to PAY for it, she was a bit disenchanted.

The game appears to be very basic. A customer walks in and tells you what they are looking for (i.e. a man walks in and wants to order a necklace for a girl that he met on a ranch). You have to use your knowledge of the intended recipient to design something that they will like. You will be rated on your job.

The beads are very simplistic from what I’ve seen. I can go to the local craft store and get a good variety to make whatever my daughter has designed that she would like. I can’t see why you would want to order them online.

If you are looking for a game for a younger player, this is a good choice. I would think that by middle school – this would be BORING.

Style Lab: Jewelry DesignThere are times when i buy a game and i have know clue how you play it. But this game is not to easy but its not hard. I love it! once you graduate from jewelry school you move on to your own store. You get to name it, put out your own window display and lots more stuff. once you open customers start coming in. they will tell you what they want and if you don’t have what they want you should have it on your laptop where you can buy stuff. This is the best part if you have a DSI you can take a picture of yourself and then you can order your jewelry! For the cheapest prices.Style Lab: Jewelry Design

I have had so much fun with this game. I didn’t know they made games like this! I know it’s probably aimed more for younger people, but I think any age would have fun with this.

I’ve been following the storyline (you have the option of freestyle or story). The storyline: I graduate from design school. Then I get to open, decorate, name my shop and make jewelry! The player has their own portfolio of their designs (very cool). And another amazing feature of the game is after setting up the wifi, the player can share designs, enter contests and send the designs to [...] to be created and purchased. How cool is that? The game is well thought out. The templates are great. The customers are varied.

Anything different I’d like is being able to see the finer details of my designs in my portfolio. And who couldn’t use more room to store designs?

    I love this game.

My daughter wanted this game so badly to be able to make and order her own “custom designed” jewelry. But the game was just OK. Maybe you have to play more to get good options, but it could not hold her interest enough to play more. The thrill wore off very quickly and after the 1st couple of days she rarely plays it if at all anymore.
