The Console Wars — XMas 1990

News program “Good Morning America” dated December 20, 1990 did a segment on Nintendo and its competitors during the 1990 holiday season. It was a question wether or not Nintendo could uphold their position as top game maker despite their older NES hardware compared to their rival’s 16-bit systems. Nintendo wasn’t gonna have their 16-bit system released in the States until the following year. More powerful systems also meant a higher price tag which was a major concern due to the US economy at the time.

at :30 seconds in I was all like “woah woah woah Nintendo, ain’t no TOY, woman!” and um, Nintendo LAST season on the market, eh? lol they made games for it for at least another 5 or so years. I love these kinda videos from way back. I’m gonna check out the rest of your vids. I was only 2 when this came out, so I’d love to see how the culture was before I got deep into games. Subb’d and everything. I’ll be looking out for more of your uploads, this stuff is history

Nintendo PR rep: Good games are really important to a system, more important than tech or graphics.

    Now -

Nintendo’s production plan: Wii sports and other casual games make a game system successful!

If that 1990s PR rep was in charge of Nintendo, maybe we wouldn’t have so much junk to sift through when looking for a good game to play.
