He was the de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore from the time of his father’s death in 1782 until his own demise in 1799. Tippu Sultan was a learned man and an able soldier. He was reputed to be a good poet. He was a devout Muslim, but was also appreciative of other religions. At the request of the French, for instance, he built a church, the first in Mysore. He was proficient in the languages he spoke. He helped his father Haidar Ali defeat the British in the Second Mysore War, and negotiated the Treaty of Mangalore with them. However, he was defeated in the Third Anglo-Mysore War and in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War by the combined forces of the English East India Company, the Nizam of Hyderabad, the Mahratta Confederacy, and to a lesser extent, Travancore. Tippu Sultan died defending his capital Srirangapattana, on May 4, 1799. @ShyamtanuBanerjee Traitors usually are small-minded selfish people. Just recently, I am finding out more info Indian ended up a British colony. It seems to me that that could have been avoided. So sad about the way British acted that caused Sepoy incidence, the first movement of Indian’s independence.

Tipu sultan was the only Indian to have defeated British two times…also Tipu is the first one to use the modern rockets for military use. After his defeat his rockets were reverse engineered and used by British. Then the brit pigs call those rockets as Congreve Rockets. This myth should be changed. Congreve did not invent military Rockets, Tipu did. Never before Tipu rockets were used. Same rockets were used by Brits against Americans, and still mentioned in Star Spangled Banner.

in the last battle tipu was having total soldier of 30,000 and british and nizam had combined army of about 90,000 and tipu was in no match infront of british in this way,,,but as matter of fact his army was so loyal to him that they not only fighted back but also did huge damages to opposite army
before the last battle tipu was given a choice either to except british supremacy or face the was,before rejecting the purposal the sultan said it is better to die like a soldier and to live helpless sultan at the hand of britishers

Tyrants who were worshiped when they took power are now being swept aside like nine-pins because they are, like Tipu Sultan, made of sand. Like I said, we Mysoreans are glad that this dynasty lasted less than four decades. I look up to Dewan Mirza Ismail who, unlike the traitor Hyder Ali, was faithful to the Maharaja and helped all Mysoreans, including Muslims, grow and develop.
